What is ZapTap?
ZapTap is a small NFC + QR tag you stick on a vehicle, pet, piece of luggage, or bag. Anyone who finds it can tap (NFC) or scan (QR) to reach you — without ever seeing your phone number.
Is my phone number visible to whoever scans the tag?
No. Calls are connected through a masked-call system so neither side ever sees the other's real number. WhatsApp contact currently opens a direct chat, which does reveal your number in that link — you can disable WhatsApp per tag if you only want masked calls.
What's the verification question for?
Before anyone can contact you, they have to correctly answer a question only someone who actually has your item could answer — like the last 4 digits of a vehicle number, which is readable straight off the plate. This stops random people who just find the QR code online (rather than the physical item) from reaching you.
Do I need to buy a physical tag to get started?
No. You can create a free digital tag right after signing up — it gets its own unique QR code you can download as a print-at-home PDF immediately. A physical NFC version is optional and reuses the exact same code.
How much does ZapTap cost?
Creating a digital tag and downloading its printable QR is free. A physical NFC tag can be ordered afterward for a small fee, currently coordinated manually over WhatsApp/call at the time of ordering.
Can I use ZapTap for something other than a vehicle?
Yes — pets, luggage, bags, bikes, or anything else you'd want a finder to be able to reach you about. You pick the type and set your own verification question when you create the tag.
Does the person who finds my item need to install an app?
No. Scanning the QR code works with any phone camera, and tapping the NFC chip works on any NFC-enabled phone. No app download is required for either the finder or the owner.
What happens if someone spams or misuses the tag?
Every tag is rate-limited, and contact only unlocks after the verification question is answered correctly, so casual misuse is filtered out automatically.
Is ZapTap available outside India?
ZapTap is currently focused on the India market — masked calling, WhatsApp contact, and phone number formats are all built around Indian numbers.
